Cyclone Freddy Affected Schools To Resume Classes Next Monday

The Ministry of Education has announced that all schools in Southern Region affected by Cyclone Freddy should open on 27 March 2023.

Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, made the remarks in Lilongwe during a Press briefing on the ministry’s response to the after-effects of cyclone Freddy.

According to Wirima, the development excludes those schools which are being used as camps for Internally Displaced People (IDP) or are submerged in water and require certification by engineers.

The minister said such schools will remain closed until 21 July 2023.

The development has come after the ministry assessed the structural stability of the infrastructure and the safety of learners and teachers.
