In his first official match in charge as the manager of FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick showed that he will continue to count on the riches of youth talent at the club.

The likes of Marc Bernal, Marc Casado, and Pau Cubarsi all started while Gerard Martin and Pau Victor received minutes from the bench.

But one player who made a splash last season but went unutilised against Valencia was teenage full-back Hector Fort.

Flick not convinced

According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona new manager Hansi Flick is not entirely convinced by Hector Fort as things stand.

The 18-year-old youngster made his first-team debut for Barça under Xavi Hernandez last season and was counted on by the former manager quite regularly.

In fact, Fort showcased great potential and talent, impressing at right-back as well as a makeshift left-back.

However, things have not been all that well for him under Flick as he has seen his involvement reduce after starting the first pre-season friendly against Manchester City in the USA.

The youngster featured as a substitute against Real Madrid but did not receive any minutes versus AC Milan before playing around 20 minutes in the Joan Gamper trophy game.

Marc Pubill’s pursuit could spell trouble for Fort

Furthermore, Barcelona seem to be eager to sign Marc Pubill from UD Almeria with the club planning a loan-to-buy deal for the Olympics gold medalist.

Indeed, as per reports earlier today, the Catalans are willing to offer a €5 million loan fee to sign Pubill with a €12 million buy option for next summer.

If he does arrive, Barcelona might have to end up sacrificing Fort, only a few months after they had renewed his contract
