The opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) has become the first political party to invite the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to its upcoming national convention. The convention, scheduled to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of October this year, will be focused on electing new party officials.
Aisha Adams Mambo of the organizing committee, informed Mzati that other political parties, including the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the People’s Party (PP), along with several others, have also been invited to attend the event.
Preparations for the convention are reported to be going smoothly, with the event set to be held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre. Mambo also revealed that the total cost of organizing the convention is estimated at MWK 140 million.
As the UDF gears up for its crucial leadership elections, the party’s move to extend invitations to major political parties, including the ruling MCP, signals its intention to foster political engagement across party lines.
