Patricia Kaliati, UTM Secretary General has broken her silence on her decision to run for the party’s presidency.
The UTM will hold its elective convention from November 17 to elect new leaders for the party.
Kaliati, a former cabinet minister has joined the presidential race alongside, Dalitso Kabambe former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor, Former cabinet minister Newton Kambala, Matthews Mtumbuka a former business executive and Micheal Usi acting UTM president, who along with Kambala, have yet to publicly state their intent.
However, her move has been faced mixed reactions, with some section of society describing her as a suitable candidate for the position of Secretary General.
In reaction, Kaliati who has been in various ministerial positions for the past twenty years that she is capable of leading the party.
Kaliati said she is experienced in running government affairs and she has the technical expertise in addressing socioeconomic challenges the country is facing hence a suitable candidate for the presidency.
