Minister Vera Kamtukule booed and insulted during speech

By Burnett Munthali

During a recent public event, Minister of Labour, Vera Kamtukule, stirred mixed reactions from the crowd with her remarks. In her speech, she praised the abundance of talent within Malawi, emphasizing that if the country fully utilized its resources and creativity, it could generate significant revenue. Her comments on the potential for economic growth through harnessing local talent were initially well-received.

However, tension arose when Kamtukule added, “Bomaso ndi lomweli!” (This is the same government!). This statement immediately sparked outrage among many in the crowd, who began booing and shouting, “No! No! Let her leave! She must go!” The situation escalated as some members of the audience insulted her, expressing their dissatisfaction and frustration with the current administration.

The incident highlights the growing discontent some Malawians feel towards the government, despite the positive messages about the country’s potential. Kamtukule’s attempt to rally support for the administration was met with hostility, reflecting the broader political frustrations present among the people.
