Malawi Receives Nearly One Million Litres of Diesel to Stabilize Supply

The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) has confirmed the arrival of 26 trucks carrying close to a million litres of diesel, a significant step towards alleviating the recent fuel shortages in the country. NOCMA spokesperson, Raymond Likambale, reported that the trucks, loaded with diesel, departed from Mozambique’s Beira Port on Monday and have now successfully reached Malawi.

In addition to the truck deliveries, Likambale mentioned that a train carrying diesel arrived at Matindi in Blantyre on Tuesday. Another fuel-laden train is expected to reach Lilongwe later this evening. These shipments are part of NOCMA’s strategy to stabilize diesel availability across the country.

“These efforts aim to stabilize the supply of the commodity, and we expect diesel availability to normalize in a few days,” Likambale stated.

The fuel crisis has affected various sectors, with transportation, agriculture, and industry bearing the brunt of the diesel shortages. NOCMA’s move to bring in substantial diesel supplies is anticipated to restore confidence among businesses and consumers and ease pressure on Malawi’s economy, which has been hampered by recent fuel disruptions.

With these efforts underway, many hope that the diesel supply will soon return to normal, helping Malawi recover from the fuel-related challenges that have affected the nation.
