Mackenzie Chipalamoto Nkhwazi, aspiring Member of Parliament for Nkhatabay North Constituency, has donated assorted food and non-food items to families displaced by the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) in Kasasile.
The donation, made on Sunday, aims to alleviate the challenges faced by these families, who have been living in a temporary camp at a CCAP church since their evacuation.
Chipalamoto Nkhwazi, who plans to contest on a DPP ticket, urged well-wishers to emulate his gesture and support the affected families.
“Let us strive to support those in need as much as we can. Kasasile, in particular, is a place where every little bit of help we can offer will be deeply appreciated,” said Chipalamoto.
Camp Manager Joshua Msiska appreciated the donation, but also called on authorities to address the underlying issue, which has been ongoing for some time.
The dispute between the MDF and residents of Kasasile began over allegations of encroachment, with over 150 community members seeking refuge at the CCAP church.
Despite court proceedings, the issue remains unresolved, with the displaced persons accusing the military of seizing their ancestral land.
