The Lilongwe Magistrate Court has granted bail to Ahmed Mohammed Chunara who was arrested on Monday, in connection with the on-going K5 billion cement-gate scandal.
Magistrate Florence Msekandiwana granted the bail after Chunara’s lawyer, Gilbert Khonyongwa had asked the court to treat his client the same way it treated the other people answering the same charge.
State lawyer Dzikondianthu Malunda said they accepted the court’s decision as the is back in court on Tuesday, 29 March 2022.
Among other bail conditions, the court has asked Chunara to pay a cash bond of K10 million.
Former President Peter Mutharika’s security aide, Norman Chisale, former director of state residences, Peter Mukhito and Malawi Revenue Authority Deputy Commissioner General Roza Mbilizi are the other suspects in the case.
