There were about 80 Members of Parliament this morning out of 193 in the National Assembly at the start of Parliamentary proceedings in Lilongwe.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Aisha Adams, made a roll call after noticing that most seats in the chamber were empty.

The roll call unveiled that 75 legislators were present with five Government Ministers who are non-MPs.

The clerk at the table also announced that 115 members were absent from the house.

Commenting on the development, Leader of the House, Richard Chimwendo Banda bemoaned late coming to Parliament by legislators which he said should stop immediately.

Chimwendo Banda further noted that at 9:30 am, legislators commence their business in the House which is two hours ahead of 7:30 am for civil servants and there’s no point why Parliamentarians should be late.
