Arsenal set to announce biggest deal of the summer as agreement reached with £158,000-a-week star

Arsenal are set to announce one of their biggest deals of the summer after a £158,000-a-week star agrees to sign the contract

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with the club, cementing his future at the Emirates Stadium.

Since his arrival in 2019, Arteta has transformed Arsenal into serious Premier League contenders, leading the Gunners to challenge Manchester City’s dominance in the last two seasons, narrowly missing out on the title by just two points last year.

Arteta, 42, is currently under contract with Arsenal until 2025, but according to Sky Sports, he is now expected to commit to a longer tenure with the North London club. The report highlights the strong relationship between Arteta, sporting director Edu, and the club’s ownership, suggesting that formal negotiations were deemed unnecessary and that there was “no rush” to finalise the new deal.

Arteta himself has indicated that his contract extension will happen naturally, with his primary focus currently on “recalibrating the squad” for the upcoming season.

Earlier this year, Arteta was linked with a potential return to Spain, with rumours suggesting he could take over at Barcelona following the announcement that Xavi would step down as manager.

Arteta, who was part of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy at the age of 15, has acknowledged that he has “always thought” about returning to his homeland “one day.” However, his immediate future appears to remain in North London.

Since taking the helm at Arsenal, Arteta has enjoyed a successful start to his managerial career, winning 141 of his 232 matches and recording an impressive average of 1.97 points per game. Under his guidance, Arsenal has secured silverware, including the FA Cup in 2020 and two Community Shields.

As Arteta prepares to sign his new contract, Arsenal fans will be hopeful that his continued leadership will bring further success and potentially end their long wait for a Premier League title
