Mangochi Monkey Bay legislator, Honorable Ralph Pacharo Jooma, has vehemently dismissed rumors that he is planning to leave the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and join the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The rumors have been circulating as political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the 2025 elections, with speculation of defections and repositioning becoming rampant.
In a statement addressing the allegations, Jooma expressed disbelief at the false reports. “I am actually appalled by these baseless rumors that I am joining MCP. The fact is that I am not doing that, and I have never thought of doing that,” said Jooma. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the DPP, stating, “I am and shall remain a member of DPP. I will continue to serve DPP not only as a member but also as National Director of Economic Affairs.”
As the 2025 elections draw closer, such rumors are becoming more common, often used by political rivals as a tactic to discredit and destabilize their opponents. However, Jooma has made it clear that he is firmly committed to the DPP, a party he has been an active member of since becoming Mangochi Monkey Bay’s legislator in 2019.
Jooma won the parliamentary seat in the 2019 elections on a DPP ticket, defeating MCP’s Gerald Kazembe, who garnered just over 9,000 votes. His dedication to serving the people of Mangochi Monkey Bay and his strong alignment with the DPP’s vision have made him a key figure in the party’s leadership.
The legislator’s clear denial comes as a signal that despite the political turbulence ahead of the next general elections, he remains focused on his role in both his constituency and the party. “These rumors are simply tactics to undermine my position, but I will not be swayed,” Jooma added, encouraging his supporters to remain calm and focused on the party’s goals.
As rumors continue to swirl in the build-up to 2025, it is expected that more politicians may face similar challenges. However, Hon. Jooma’s firm stand against the speculation signals his unwavering commitment to the DPP and his determination to serve both the party and the people of Malawi.
