Lawyer Kamangila to face Judges Association; Poised to drop another bombshell against top judges

By Burnett Munthali

In a high-stakes development, the Magistrates and Judges Association of Malawi (MJAM) has summoned prominent lawyer Alexious Kamangila to discuss his ongoing allegations of corruption within the judiciary, specifically targeting Justice Ken Manda. Kamangila has repeatedly accused Justice Manda of engaging in corrupt practices, further alleging that top figures in the judiciary are actively protecting him from scrutiny.

Despite warnings from the association to cease his public accusations—particularly those he has made on social media platforms, including Facebook—Kamangila has not only continued but intensified his criticism of Justice Manda and other members of the judiciary. His refusal to back down has brought the matter to the attention of MJAM, which now seeks to resolve the issue through a round table discussion.

Interestingly, the association has not extended an invitation to Justice Manda to participate in the discussions, a move that has raised eyebrows among legal circles. This exclusion has led to speculation about the fairness and transparency of the process, with some questioning why the accused judge is not being given an opportunity to defend himself in the same forum where his accuser will speak.

Meanwhile, Kamangila has signaled that he is preparing to release further explosive details. In a statement, he hinted that this coming Friday, he will expose why three top Supreme Court Justices—Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda, Deputy Chief Justice Chikopa, and Justice Madise—are allegedly reluctant to hold Justice Manda accountable. This revelation is expected to send shockwaves through the judiciary and may deepen the divisions already evident in the legal fraternity.

The looming confrontation is likely to further tarnish the public perception of Malawi’s judiciary, already under scrutiny for alleged corruption and a lack of accountability. With Kamangila’s new revelations set to emerge, the stakes have never been higher for both the judiciary and the legal profession at large.

All eyes will now be on Friday’s developments as the nation awaits what could be a pivotal moment in the fight for transparency and integrity within Malawi’s justice system.
