Malawi football continues to face significant hurdles in its growth, with the latest setback being the rampant fraud and mismanagement of gate collections.
Despite efforts to curb counterfeit ticket sales, several individuals have been caught selling fake tickets during recent league and international matches.
The Saturday’s high-profile match between Silver Strikers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets grossed K24,688,500, but this figure does not accurately reflect the true revenue generated.
The match, expected to be a lucrative money-spinner for the two football powerhouses, was marred by the presence of numerous beneficiaries of the gate collections.
A staggering 17 entities benefited from the game proceeds, with the home team, Silver Strikers, receiving K4,857,180, and the visiting team, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, taking home a meager K4,858,000.
While some quarters have laid the blame on the venue used for this top of the bill type of the game, the Net collection of K17,662,475 and 25% Ground Levy amounting to K4,415,618 have raised serious questions about the transparency and accountability of gate collection management in Malawi football.
