The police in Mulanje have successfully recovered an unmarked pistol, loaded with five live rounds of ammunition, and have initiated a manhunt for the suspect linked to the firearm. The incident occurred on November 29, 2024, in Makupiza Village under Traditional Authority (T/A) Mabuka.

In a statement issued by Mulanje Police Public Relations Officer Innocent Moses, the discovery of the firearm followed a tip-off received by officers from the Anti-Organized Crime Unit. Acting on the information, the police moved swiftly to recover the weapon, which was found concealed in the area.

The suspect, identified as Kingsley Bandazi, aged 46, is a resident of Kumbali Village within T/A Mabuka. Authorities have launched an intensive search for Bandazi, who is believed to be directly linked to the illegal possession of the firearm.

Moses emphasized the seriousness of the incident, highlighting that unlicensed firearms pose a significant threat to the safety and security of communities. He reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that those who engage in criminal activities are apprehended.

“We are following all leads, and we are confident that the suspect will be brought to justice soon. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could be related to this case,” Moses stated.

The police have warned the public that the possession of illegal firearms is a criminal offense punishable under Malawian law. They also encouraged anyone with information about Bandazi’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

The recovery of the unmarked pistol and the initiation of the manhunt serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the illegal possession of firearms and ensure the safety of the citizens of Malawi.
