The leader of the newly formed National Youth Alliance (NYP) party, Vasco Mqobi Madhlopa, has announced ambitious plans to honor the late Vice President of Malawi, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, who tragically passed away in a plane crash alongside seven others.
Madhlopa revealed his intention to construct a state-of-the-art memorial hotel at the site of the plane crash that claimed Chilima’s life. The hotel, to be named the Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima Memorial Hotel, will serve as a tribute to the late Vice President while also boosting tourism and economic development.
“This facility will attract visitors from across the globe, creating a platform for Malawi to generate foreign revenue,” Madhlopa explained.
In addition to the hotel, Madhlopa plans to establish a world-class university named Saulos Chilima International University in Ntcheu, the late Chilima’s home district.
“The university will focus on advanced education, particularly in leadership and innovation, as a way of preserving Dr. Chilima’s legacy of excellence and visionary thinking,” Madhlopa said.
The late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, remembered for his transformative leadership and dedication to national development, served as a beacon of hope for many Malawians. Madhlopa emphasized that these projects aim to preserve Chilima’s legacy and inspire future generations.
“These initiatives are not just about honoring the memory of a great leader but also about building the future of Malawi by investing in tourism, education, and innovation,” he added.
The proposed projects demonstrate Vasco Mqobi Madhlopa’s commitment to celebrating Malawi’s heroes while fostering national development. If implemented, the memorial hotel and international university will serve as lasting tributes to the late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire generations to come.
