Dear Mr. President,
A Reminder to Honor the Rule of Law and Uphold Democracy
Mr. President, as a concerned citizen, I am compelled to write to you with the hope that my words may serve as a mirror reflecting the state of our beloved Malawi.
We, the people of Malawi, trusted you with leadership, believing in your promises of building a better, united, and prosperous Malawi.
You spoke of a “Canaan,”thats according to you a place of hope and transformation. But today, many are left wondering: is this the promised land you envisioned?
The politics of intimidation, harassment, and selective arrests that we see today are a betrayal of the democratic ideals we fought for.
It says one should not lose their life over a needle. Yet here we are, watching as resources are wasted on political battles while our nation crumbles under hunger, fuel shortages, and a collapsing economy.
As Malawians die of hunger, our currency weakens, and our reserves of forex vanish, your government appears distracted by targeting political opponents rather than addressing the pressing needs of the people.
This is a time to feed the hungry and heal the nation, not to sharpen weapons of political warfare.
When you ascend to the throne, do not despise those who elevated you. The power you hold comes from the people, and the people are watching.
Selective justice is no justice at all. While you target certain individuals in the opposition party corruption festers in the corridors of power of your Malawi Congress Party.
The people see these injustices and remember, a snake’s breath never cools. Your actions will linger in the minds of Malawians, and their verdict will be clear in the coming general elections.
Mr. President, the foundation of any great leader is the ability to listen and to act justly.
Bravery is not self-serving; it is for the good of others. It is time to show true leadership by prioritizing the needs of Malawians above all else.
Our people are tired, starving, and losing hope. The cost of living is unbearable, and the promise of a better Malawi feels like a distant dream.
If you continue to wage this senseless battles at the expense of our suffering, history will remember you not as the deliverer but as the betrayer.
I urge you to stop these divisive practices, focus on the people’s needs, and honor the democracy that brought you to power.
Yours faithfully,
Comrade jumbe
