A prophet and his accomplice have been arrested by police in Jenda, Mzimba, for conduct likely to cause breach of peace and attempted fraud.

Prophet Isaac Mkandawire and Eunice Soko were taken into custody on March 2, 2025, following reports from villagers about their suspicious activities.

According to eyewitnesses, a small-sized coffin was discovered outside a villager’s house in Zatuwa Zimba village.

The villager, who woke up around 6:00 hours, informed the village headman and other villagers about the coffin.

When people gathered to investigate, Prophet Mkandawire appeared, claiming to offer assistance.

Mkandawire opened the coffin and proclaimed that it contained charms meant to magically kill a villager’s son who was in South Africa.

He demanded to speak with the mother of the son and convinced her to call him.

During the call, Mkandawire demanded K350,000 for his services to lift the supposed spell.

However, the villagers became suspicious when one of them claimed to have seen Eunice Soko, Mkandawire’s accomplice, near the area where the coffin was placed.

Further investigation revealed that the duo had performed a similar scam in a nearby village, where they had collected K 150 ,000.

The matter was reported to Jenda Police Station, and officers were dispatched to the scene.

They arrested Mkandawire and Soko for conduct likely to cause breach of peace and attempted fraud.

Mkandawire, a prophet at Jerusalem Ministries, and Soko, both from Mzimba district, are currently in police custody.

They will be taken to court soon to answer charges related to their alleged crimes.

The police have commended the villagers for their vigilance and prompt reporting of the suspicious activities.

The authorities have also urged citizens to be cautious and report any similar incidents to the police.
