By Burnett Munthali

The cricket community in Malawi gathered in Blantyre on Thursday 15th May 2025 to pay their final respects to Arjun Menon, the former national coach and Operations Manager of Cricket Malawi.

Menon, originally from Singapore, was honoured in a solemn yet heartfelt ceremony that brought together family, friends, colleagues, and members of the wider sporting community.

Representing the late coach were his wife, sister, and extended family, who arrived in the country on Wednesday to bid him farewell.

During the service, Menon’s sister delivered an emotional tribute, thanking everyone who came to honour her brother’s memory.

She emphasized that the large turnout—comprising individuals from various parts of the country—was a true reflection of the kind of life Menon led and the lasting impact he made on others.

She shared that her brother would have wanted those he left behind to continue pursuing their passions and to live life to the fullest, just as he had done.

Arjun Menon, aged 48, tragically lost his life on May 10 in what authorities have described as a brutal and suspicious attack in Blantyre.

The circumstances surrounding his death have shocked the nation and raised serious concerns within the community.

Menon had spent the last five years of his life working tirelessly to promote and develop the game of cricket in Malawi, gaining admiration for his dedication and leadership.

Capital FM joins the nation in mourning the loss of a man who was not only a sports figure but also a mentor, colleague, and friend to many.

His legacy in Malawian cricket is expected to live on through the many lives he touched and the structures he helped build.
