Member of Parliament for the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) in Mzimba, Yeremiah Chihana, says his party is ready to partner with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in a joint effort to remove the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) from power in the upcoming general elections slated for September 16.
Speaking at a political rally held at the Lonolo Ground at BCA in Blantyre, Chihana openly declared AFORD’s willingness to collaborate with the DPP, describing the alliance as a strategic move to bring change to the country’s leadership.
“We are ready to work with the DPP to liberate Malawians from the suffering they have endured under the MCP-led administration,” said Chihana.
The rally, organized by the DPP’s Southern Region Vice President, Joseph Mwanamveka, and the party’s Director of Operations, Sameer Suleman, drew hundreds of supporters, reflecting growing political momentum ahead of the September polls.
Chihana’s endorsement of the DPP comes at a time when opposition parties are stepping up their campaign efforts to challenge the governing party. Both Mwanamveka and Suleman used the platform to urge aspiring candidates to intensify their campaign activities, promising full support from the DPP leadership.
With the elections drawing closer, alliances such as the one between AFORD and DPP could significantly shape the political landscape and the balance of power in the country.
