The Malawi Police Service (MPS) says they have arrested six suspects and appeared before the Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe on 27th October, 2025 to answer various criminal charges related to Activist Sylvester Namiwa incident in June, 2025 in Lilongwe and hacking of Civil Servants by panga wielding thugs, among others.
The Police say the offences committed by the suspects include Grievous harm, Malicious Damage, Theft, and Robbery citing Alfred Dala Kadula, 43 is connected to the Mbowe filling station incident on 24th February, 2024 where DPP supporters were hacked by pangas and Sylvester Namiwa at Lilongwe Community ground.
They say Joseph Tilibe Gideon 50, is linked to the Salima robbery and Namiwa case, Lamerc Mandowa 42, is charged with Malicious damage after allegedly setting ablaze a Quantum minibus during the Namiwa incident in Lilongwe.
Lester Hanleck Aaron Kanjunga 38, is connected with the Namiwa case, Howard Hamuza 27, is charged of theft (of speakers) and malicious damage in the Namiwa case, and Mabvuto Njuchi 27, is connected to the Mbowe filling station case.
In the statement released dated 27th October, 2025 signed by Supt Alfred Chimthere (Deputy Public Relations Officer), the police have reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all criminal activities are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
“The MPS appeals to the public to remain calm as due process takes its course,” reads part of the Malawi Police Service (MPS) statement.
Julius Zimwanda Mithi of JFM News has reported that one of MCP notorious youth members Alfred Dala Kadula is facing 36 charges including murdering Burundians whose containers were confiscated by police from mainly Mtandire and Mtandire townships in Lilongwe.
JFM News has reported that these containers are symbolically placed at the National Police Headquarters- Area 30 in Lilongwe saying many of those Burundians as Malawians believed were deported to their countries of origin, they are allegedly to have been murdered in Malawi.
“This is according to the charge sheet read in the court for the suspected criminals who appeared before the Principal Resident Magistrate,” JFM News report.
JFM News has further reported that police are on the ground with their investigations to arrest others with reports that one of the suspects Eric Phakamisa who was residing in Area 36 – Lilongwe, is reported to be on the run.
Bakili Muluzi TV online television station has accused a high ranking DPP official of Mchesi township in Lilongwe of phoning MCP thugs to running away from Police detectives who are hunting for them warning him that if he continues, he will end like curtains on the wall.
Bakili Muluzi TV has reminded the official that MCP thugs terrorized and hacked many innocent people in Malawi and were being shielded by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera saying time has now come for Malawians to demand justice to heal their deep wounds
