Iran has claimed it launched cruise missile strikes targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, according to a military statement broadcast on state television.
The statement said Iran’s Navy deployed Qader shore-based anti-ship cruise missiles, alleging that the strike forced the carrier to alter its position. Authorities in Iran further warned that additional attacks could follow if US naval forces move within range of its missile systems.
Speaking through the state media report, Iranian Navy chief Shahram Irani said the movements of the US strike group are being closely tracked.
“The hostile fleet is under constant surveillance, and once it comes within the operational range of our missile systems, it will face powerful strikes,” he said.
The reported development signals a sharp escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly in strategic waters where US naval presence has long been a point of contention.
There has been no immediate confirmation from US officials regarding the alleged missile strike or claims that the carrier was forced to change course.
Military analysts note that any direct engagement involving a US aircraft carrier would represent a significant escalation, raising concerns over potential wider conflict in the region.
