Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has intensified efforts to assist Malawians affected by ongoing xenophobic violence in South Africa by securing ten buses to transport those wishing to return home safely.

The founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church announced the development through a statement posted on his official Facebook page, describing the initiative as a humanitarian response to the growing challenges faced by foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.Shepherd Bushiri Foundation Talent Hunt Excites Machinga as Young Footballers Target Dedza Dynamos Slots

According to Bushiri, the buses have been deployed to collect Malawian nationals from major centres including Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg before transporting them back to Malawi.

Medical Support Included During the Journey

Beyond transportation, Bushiri revealed that the buses are equipped with personnel capable of providing first aid and basic medical assistance to passengers who may require healthcare support during the long journey.

The inclusion of medical teams highlights the scale of the operation and reflects concerns about the wellbeing of vulnerable returnees, including women, children, the elderly and individuals with health conditions.Shepherd Bushiri Ignites Youth Football Dreams as Nselema United Triumphs in Machinga Bonanza

“Our priority is ensuring that our fellow Malawians return home safely and with dignity,” Bushiri said.

Foreign Currency Shortages Threatening Expansion of the Initiative

Despite the progress made, Bushiri acknowledged that the shortage of foreign currency remains a major obstacle in expanding the evacuation exercise.

He explained that transport companies operating in South Africa require payment in foreign currency, making it difficult to secure additional buses at short notice.

Growing Concern Over Safety of Foreign Nationals

The repatriation exercise comes amid heightened concerns over the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa following reports of xenophobic incidents targeting migrants from several African countries.

Many Malawians living and working in South Africa have reportedly expressed fear over their security, prompting some to seek assistance to return home temporarily or permanently.

The situation has sparked widespread discussions across Malawi regarding the welfare of citizens living abroad and the importance of emergency support mechanisms during times of crisis.
