Activist Ben Chiza Mkandawire has named Professor Brigadier General Dan Kuwali as number one suspect in the circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Saulosi Chilima in the Chikangawa forest on Monday, 10th June, 2024.
Chiza Mkandawire said he is making this allegation for the last time saying this is following the proceedings of the investigations the Parliamentary Adhoc Committee is conducting in Lilongwe investigating circumstances surrounding the tragic plane crash that killed Dr. Chilima and eight other innocent souls.

Appearing before the Adhoc Committee, former Minister of Defence in the Chakwera’s led MCP government Harry Mkandawire said former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera informed him on the evening of 9th June, 2024 that Dr. Saulosi Chilima will attend the funeral service of lawyer Ralph Kasambara in Nkhatabay and he was to travel using the military aircraft.
Mkandawire further told the committee that on the 10th June, 2024 he received a phone call from former Defence Force Commander General Dr. Paul Velentino Phiri that the plane had returned to Lilongwe due to bad weather in Mzuzu that made it impossible to land.
He said later on the day, he received another information that the said plane went missing, and that all efforts to trace it proved futile and a search mission has been deployed in the Chikangawa forest to locating the missing plane.
Mkandawire said Professor Dan Kuwali is the one who manufactured a narrative of giving an entail to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to lie to the nation that the plane reached Mzuzu and returned to Lilongwe because of the weather situation there.
He said Dan Kuwali wants to deflect the matter away from him and the MDF by manufacturing a lie when he masterminded the whole thing.
The Activist said what is paining him most is that Dr. Chilima and Professor Dan Kuwali were good friends just the same as him and Allan Ntata, and Allan masterminding his death saying Chilima was killed as he was surrounded by his enemies.
He said even the progress of the enquiry itself is speaking that there are lies and contradictory statements which are being made and Walter Nyamilandu Manda himself is afraid of asking hard questions because of the system.
Mkandawire has reminded Malawians that Professor Dan Kuwali is a law lecturer at Chancellor College, has his law firm, military lawyer and all the military procurement equipment are done in his office claiming that he and Dr. Chilima received bribes from Zuneth Sattar but only Dr. Chilima was arrested.
” Whatever is bought in the military, Dan Kuwali received a Commission, he is also part of the lawyers prosecuting corruption cases,” he said.
Mkandawire has questioned Professor Dan Kuwali that if he sees Mary Chilima and her children crying for their beloved caring father and bread winner, how does he feel hanging his friend Dr. Chilima after allegedly pocketing 300,000 US Dollars?
