Malawi First, People First leader Bon Kalindo has challenged the government and political leaders to explain what concrete measures they are taking to end the country’s worsening fuel shortages, electricity blackouts and water supply disruptions.
Speaking at a press conference in Lilongwe, Kalindo expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of clear communication and practical solutions from those entrusted with addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
He demanded transparency in fuel procurement, urging government to publicly explain how fuel is being sourced and what urgent interventions are being implemented to restore reliable supplies.
Kalindo warned that persistent power and water disruptions were hurting households, businesses and essential services, with continued shortages threatening to deepen the country’s economic difficulties.
He also raised concerns over foreign exchange shortages, alleging that some individuals, including politicians, were withdrawing foreign currency from banks and selling it on the black market.
According to Kalindo, the practice is worsening access to foreign currency for businesses and individuals who depend on formal banking channels.
His remarks add to growing pressure on government to move beyond explanations and demonstrate tangible action on the fuel, electricity, water and foreign exchange crises.
