MW, OPEC FUND SIGN FINANCIAL AGREEMENTS



Malawi Government and Opec Fund have signed agreements for Dowa Town Water and Sanitation Project and a feasibility study for a new Mzuzu Airport.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Minister of Finance, Sosten Gwengwe, thanked Opec Fund for supporting the government in infrastructure development.


OPEC Fund Director-General, Alkhalifa Salem, said the agreement will aid Malawi to provide potable water and boost tourism in the northern region. Salem called on implementing agencies to stick to designs during the implementation stages of the two projects.
In her remarks, Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, was quick to state the importance of the Dowa Town Water and Sanitation Project.

She added that government will continue to source funding to increase access to potable water in other districts.
Opec Fund has committed K14 billion as a soft loan for Dowa Town Water and Sanitation Project and about K600 million grant for the Mzuzu Airport feasibility study.
