lt has been established that Tonse Alliance regime is expected to change its leadership hand in the next six months.
This is according to the leaked document that Nkhokwe Yankhani has seen that President Lazarus Chakwera will leave the mantle to his vice Saulos Chilima per alliance agreement.
According to the document, it is said that President Chakwera, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka and other Tonse Alliance members held a secret meeting.
Chilima and Chakwera up in arms for leadership
During the meeting, Mkaka and Chakwera surprised their fellow members by revealing the agreement that Chilima and Chakwera had before taking the government in 2019.
The two revealed that Chilima is the one who is expected to become a Malawian President by December 2022 while Mkaka will second him as a Vice President.
The document further reveals that Chilima and Chakwera had an agreement of two years and six months ruling time frame within the five years of term where Chilima will rule the next quarter.
But asked to comment on the document Mkaka and UTM Spokesperson Frank Mwenefumbo both refused to comment, saying they do not comment on social media stories and that they had never held such a meeting.
Cracks are still widening among Tonse Alliance party members as Chilima and his UTM party followers seem to stand alone in preparation of the 2025 general elections.
For instance, On Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in Mzuzu upon arrival, President Chakwera was only welcomed by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and AFORD followers.
MCP and AFORD members were only seen mounting party clothes around the Mzuzu roundabout which has been a norm to welcome the Head of State who is also the Tonse Alliance torch bearer.
