In a recent statement, Malawi’s Minister of Information and Digitalization, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu, expressed optimism about the potential benefits that Malawi stands to gain in the fields of technology, agriculture, and trade following the historic ministerial conference between African nations and Russia held in Sochi, Russia.

This meeting, the first of its kind, brought together several ministers from across Africa and Russia, where discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and fostering partnerships aimed at advancing the development of the participating countries. The key areas of cooperation identified were technology, agriculture, and trade—sectors that are crucial for the economic growth of Malawi.

Hon. Kunkuyu highlighted that Russia, known for its vast reserves of oil, wheat production, and fertilizers, is well-positioned to help Malawi enhance its agricultural output. With Russia’s expertise in producing essential commodities such as oil and wheat, Malawi is expected to benefit from increased access to these products. Furthermore, Kunkuyu emphasized the potential for cooperation in the field of fertilizers, which could be pivotal in boosting Malawi’s agricultural sector.
