MCP operatives allegedly involved in political violence released after one hour in custody

Reports have emerged that individuals linked to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) who were recently arrested have been released after just one hour in police custody.

Among those allegedly set free is a man identified as “Mulo Makina,” who is accused of being behind violent attacks in Lilongwe.

According to sources, the man in this picture was seen in viral social media pictures during the political violence at Mbowe Filling Station, where Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters were targeted.

The incident occurred when the DPP attempted to hold a roadshow parade, which was ultimately disrupted by suspected MCP operatives.

Eyewitnesses claimed that several people were attacked and hacked during the chaos, leaving many questioning the safety of opposition activities in Malawi.

It is further alleged that the same individuals responsible for this violence were taken into custody but were quickly released without proper legal proceedings.

The names of the suspected MCP operatives involved in these attacks have been identified as follows:

  1. Mulo Makina
  2. Eric Phakamisa
  3. Steve Kadammanja

The swift release of these individuals has raised concerns about selective justice and the role of law enforcement in handling politically motivated violence.

Critics argue that if the suspects had been linked to opposition parties, they would have faced harsher consequences rather than being freed within an hour.

This incident has reignited debates on political violence in Malawi, with many calling for impartiality in the enforcement of justice.

The question remains whether authorities will take firm action against those responsible for these attacks or if political connections will continue to shield certain individuals from accountability.

As Malawi approaches another election cycle, the increasing reports of politically motivated violence and selective justice threaten the country’s democracy.

Many Malawians are now demanding a thorough investigation into this matter to ensure that those who perpetrate violence are held accountable, regardless of their political affiliation.
