In a powerful demonstration of leadership and compassion, Walter Nyamilandu Manda today joined hands with community members to construct a sandbag dyke aimed at protecting the Nsanje South West community from destructive flooding caused by the Nyamadzere River.
This timely intervention was made possible through the corporate social responsibility efforts of Illovo Sugar, Nchalo Estate, which generously donated 5,000 empty bags. The materials enabled rapid construction of a protective barrier at a critical moment, significantly strengthening local flood defenses.
Beyond infrastructure support, Manda extended his outreach to displaced families at Mpomba Settlement Camp, where he distributed essential food items to households affected by the floods. He was accompanied by Ribon Mitole, a well-wisher who donated assorted clothing and additional food supplies, further easing the burden on vulnerable families.
The initiative brought visible relief and renewed hope to residents. Smiles and words of gratitude reflected the immediate impact of coordinated action between community leaders, corporate partners, and individual philanthropists.
This effort underscores a broader message: when leadership, private sector support, and community solidarity converge, meaningful change is possible—even in the face of recurring climate-related disasters. Through decisive action and genuine empathy, Walter Nyamilandu Manda continues to exemplify people-centered leadership, delivering not only protection and relief, but also dignity and hope to those most in need.
