MAPUTO, Mozambique — June 25, 2026 — Mozambique is today celebrating its 51st Independence Day, commemorating more than five decades since achieving freedom from Portuguese colonial rule on June 25, 1975.

Among the international voices recognizing the occasion is Gautam Karve, Editor-in-Chief of the World Media Organization, who extended warm congratulations to the people and Government of Mozambique.

In a message released on Thursday, Karve described Independence Day as a proud symbol of Mozambique’s unity, determination, and unwavering commitment to progress.

“On the joyous occasion of Mozambique Independence Day, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the people and Government of Mozambique. He commended Mozambique’s achievements over the past five decades, noting the country’s growing influence in regional development, cultural diversity, and international cooperation.

Karve further expressed optimism about Mozambique’s future, emphasizing the importance of strengthening global partnerships, peace, and sustainable development.

“On behalf of the World Media Organization, I convey our best wishes for continued success and advancement. May the bonds of friendship, understanding, and cooperation among nations continue to strengthen, fostering a brighter, more inclusive, and prosperous future for all.”
