Leader of opposition, Kondwani Nankhumwa, has described the country’s economic situation as a ticking bomb saying the Tonse Alliance administration has so far demonstrated to be clueless and offers no hope to Malawians.
Speaking at a press briefing underway in Lilongwe, Nankhumwa cited forex shortages, skyrocketing commodity prices and rampant corruption as evidence of failure by the current administration.
According to Nankhumwa, the government is instead focusing on political witch-hunting, nepotism and clamping down on journalists.
He said: “Fuel shortage is likely to go up and this will affect prices of fertilizer and other goods. We are also seeing undemocratic tendencies that were rampant during the former MCP [Malawi Congress Party] regime.”
Other Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers including Mark Botomani, Ralph Jooma, Welani Chilenga, Yusufu Nthenda and Julius Mwale are part of the briefing.
