Police in Salima district have arrested two men for allegedly being found in possession of locomotive fuel without licence and over 329 litres seized in an operation dubbed “Landa Zigubu.”
The two have been identified as Jamusani White, 54, from Machokola village Traditional Mabuka in Mulanje district and Alick Bomba 35, from Zidyani village Traditional Authority Mwanza in Salima district.
In the early morning of October 7, 2022, the Station Officer and his team carried out the operation around Kamuzu road, Kaphatenga and Salima boma where police arrested the two and seized twelve 20 litre jerry cans, five 9 litre jerry cans, seven 2 litre jerry cans, fifteen 1 litre, twenty half litre containers plus extra seventeen 20 litres containers which were empty.
The operation has been carried out to decongest filling stations where fuel is in and to further restrict vendors from carrying out the business.

The two will appear before court soon to answer the charge levelled against them.
Police in the district are appealing to motorists to stop buying fuel from unauthorised vendors as the system may put their vehicles at risk.
