The 22-year-old Malawian cycling prodigy, Gift Nazombe has made history by emerging victorious in the 109km 2025 Cape Town Cycle Tour, held on March 9, 2025.
This incredible, jaw-dropping performance and achievement has opened doors for Nazombe to receive world-class training and coaching, potentially catapulting him to the elite category of international cycling. A certificate from the High Performance Centre will be his ticket to compete against the best cyclists globally.
Competing against 566 top cyclists from around the globe in Group-E, Nazombe demonstrated his exceptional skill and endurance, completing the gruelling 109km distance in an impressive 3 hours and 4 minutes, achieving a remarkable speed of 35.4 kilometres per hour.
“I’m over the moon to receive this sponsorship after my hard work paid off at the Cape Town Cycle Tour,” Nazombe exclaimed. “I urge the corporate world to consider supporting cycling, just as they do with other sports disciplines.”
President of the Malawi Cycling Federation, Malumbo Kayira, praised Nazombe for properly managing his talent through the correct channels, emphasizing that cycling, like any other sport, offers a clear progression pathway from amateur to professional leagues.
“As a country, we’re accumulating points, and as an individual cyclist, Gift is also earning points. It’s exciting to see this young athlete showcasing his talent,” said Kayira.
Nazombe’s remarkable success started with a local tournament, ‘Tour de Dwangwa’ which is a testament to his dedication and hard work, expected to becoming Malawi’s next international cycling sensation.
