The Police flag has resumed flying at the Chiputula Police Unit, marking a significant milestone in the area’s security and development.

The reopening follows the completion of renovation works and an official handover of the office to the police service by William Chikweta Kaweche, an aspiring parliamentary candidate.

The police unit was vandalized and burnt down by angry demonstrators in 2019, paralyzing police operations in the area.

However, with the renovation works now complete, the unit is set to enhance security and promote socioeconomic development in the community.

In his remarks, Kaweche emphasized the importance of proper police formations in promoting community development.

“We need to beef up security here in Chiputula for our socio-economic growth in all spheres of development in our society,” Kaweche said.

Assistant Commissioner Jessie Phimba, Officer in Charge of the Mzuzu Police Station, highlighted the significance of community involvement in police work.

“People of Chiputula need to demonstrate ownership of their police, this promotes justice in enhancing development in our society hence need community involvement in Police works,” she said.

The reopening of the Chiputula Police Unit brings the total number of police formations in Mzuzu City to five, including Luwinga, Chibavi, Mchengautuwa, and Zolozolo.
