Karonga, Malawi – The President of the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) and Bishop of Karonga Diocese, Bishop Martin Mtumbuka, has called on Second Vice President Enock Chihana to continue fostering peace and harmony among Malawi’s faith communities.
The appeal came during a courtesy visit by Chihana to Bishop Mtumbuka at his residence, Bambo Zutu House, in Karonga. The discussions centered on key national issues, including national unity, social development, infrastructure, food security, youth and women empowerment, highlighting the importance of stability and progress for the nation’s well-being.

Bishop Mtumbuka also took the opportunity to congratulate President Arthur Peter Mutharika on his victory in the September national elections.
During the visit, VP Chihana relayed a message of support from President Mutharika to the Catholic Church leadership, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to collaboration with faith-based organizations in national development initiatives.

In addition to meeting the bishop, Chihana engaged with Senior Traditional Leaders in Karonga, led by Mtemi wa Batemi Kyungu, where leaders pledged their support to both President Mutharika and Vice President Chihana in advancing their development agenda across the region.
This meeting underscores ongoing efforts by Malawi’s leadership to strengthen community engagement, faith-based collaboration, and national development, ensuring that both religious and traditional institutions play a role in fostering peace, stability, and inclusive growth.
