A United Kingdom-based Malawian citizen, Ben Chiza Mkandawire, has called on the Blantyre Police Station Commissioner to resign over the handling of the Dr. Victoria Bobe murder case.
Mkandawire alleges that the police have lied to Malawians about the suspects paraded in connection with the murder, claiming that research has shown the individuals are Chichiri prisoners posing as the perpetrators.
He argues that the police’s actions have further eroded public trust in the institution, citing corruption and political interference.
Mkandawire questions the authenticity of the investigation, pointing out that the paraded suspects, Santos Chamanda and Maxwell Eliya, are serving sentences for cattle theft in Nsanje and had no connection to the murder.
He suspects a powerful politician or police involvement in the killing, citing inconsistencies in the police’s account and the failure to present CCTV footage as evidence.
Mkandawire criticizes Dr. Bobe’s husband for his silence, suggesting potential involvement or knowledge of the crime.
He urges Malawians to demand accountability from the police, emphasizing that they are paid by taxpayers and must serve the people.
Mkandawire calls on President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and Homeland Security Minister Peter Mukhito to take action, including reprimanding the Blantyre Police Commissioner.
The activist demands transparency and justice for Dr. Bobe’s family, emphasizing that the police’s actions have only added to the public’s grief and outrage.
