TEHRAN — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and firmly under Iran’s control, rejecting recent claims made by the United States regarding security operations in the key waterway.
In a statement released on Sunday, the IRGC responded to remarks by Donald Trump, accusing Washington of spreading “false claims” about protecting oil tankers traveling through the strategic passage.
According to the Guards, the United States has been attempting to portray itself as the guarantor of maritime security in the region while allegedly seeking assistance from other countries to safeguard vessels moving through the strait.
“The Strait of Hormuz remains open and is under Iran’s monitoring and control,” the statement said, emphasizing that the country’s naval forces continue to operate normally in the area.
The IRGC also dismissed US claims that Iranian naval vessels had been destroyed during recent tensions, describing the assertions as incorrect and part of what it called a broader narrative by Washington.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes. A significant portion of global oil shipments passes through the narrow channel each day, making stability in the region critical for international energy markets.
Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated in recent weeks amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with both sides trading accusations over military actions and control of regional waterways.
Iranian officials maintain that they will continue to ensure safe navigation in the strait while defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial waters.
