The Malawi Police Service has strengthened its senior leadership following the appointment of Evalista Mvula Chisale as Deputy Inspector General of Police responsible for Administration, with immediate effect.
The appointment was made by the Malawi Police Service Commission following a meeting held in Blantyre and was confirmed by National Deputy Police Spokesperson Alfred Chimthere.
The decision marks an important development in the administration of the country’s police service and is expected to provide fresh leadership to one of the institution’s most critical portfolios.
Administration plays a central role in ensuring that the Malawi Police Service operates effectively. The docket oversees key areas including personnel management, officers’ welfare, logistics and other internal systems that support police operations across the country.
Mrs. Chisale brings experience and a reputation for discipline, commitment and hard work to the position. Her appointment is therefore being viewed as an opportunity to further strengthen the administrative structures that support police officers in carrying out their responsibilities.
A well-functioning administrative system is essential to an effective police service. When officers have proper welfare systems, adequate logistical support and efficient personnel management, they are better positioned to serve communities and maintain law and order.
The latest changes have also resulted in Dr. Noel Kayira taking over as Deputy Inspector General responsible for Operations.
Dr. Kayira assumes the operations portfolio following the retirement of Stain Chaima, whose departure created a vacancy in the position.
The new arrangement means that the Malawi Police Service now has DIG Chisale overseeing Administration while DIG Kayira takes responsibility for Operations.
The two portfolios are among the most important at senior management level, with Administration providing the institutional support necessary for the service to function effectively, while Operations focuses on the deployment and coordination of policing activities.
The Commission’s decision has consequently brought a new leadership configuration to the top management of the Malawi Police Service at a time when the institution continues to face the demanding responsibility of maintaining security and public order across Malawi.
Mrs. Chisale’s elevation is also a recognition of the importance of experienced officers taking up strategic leadership positions within the service.
Her immediate task will be to help ensure that the administrative machinery of the police service remains efficient, professional and responsive to the needs of officers and the wider institution.
With DIG Chisale in Administration and DIG Kayira in Operations, the Malawi Police Service enters a new phase of senior leadership with an opportunity to build on existing systems while strengthening efficiency, professionalism and service delivery.
The appointments demonstrate the Commission’s responsibility to fill key leadership positions and ensure continuity within the police service.
