Silver Strikers’ hopes of making history by completing the TNM Super League season without a single loss were dashed following a 1-0 defeat to Fomo at Mulanje Park Stadium. Despite having already secured the league title, Silver Strikers were aiming to achieve the extraordinary feat of an unbeaten season.
However, their aspirations were brought to an abrupt end when Prince Kajore struck late for Fomo, scoring the decisive goal in the 85th minute. The loss marked the first and only defeat for the champions in what has otherwise been a remarkable season.
Meanwhile, at Kamuzu Stadium, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets maintained their momentum with a commanding 3-1 victory over Karonga. The Bullets’ strong performance has lifted their spirits as they remain in contention for second place in the league standings.
In another fixture, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers were held to a 1-1 draw by Creck Sporting Club at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji. Misheck Botomani opened the scoring for Wanderers, but Creck’s Frank Phiri equalized from the penalty spot, ensuring the spoils were shared.
The league’s attention now turns to the race for second place, with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers locked in a fierce battle. Both teams are determined to finish as runners-up in the highly competitive season.
At the bottom of the table, Fomo, Bangwe, and Chitipa United find themselves embroiled in a tense relegation battle. Each team is fighting desperately to avoid the drop as the season reaches its climax.
With the league title decided but other critical positions still at stake, the final rounds promise to deliver drama and excitement as teams fight for glory and survival.
