After successfully reaching the Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro, 19 hikers on the trek to raise funds for the establishment of hiking and nature conservation clubs in the country’s secondary schools are on the descent back to the foot of the mountain. The hikers began their excursion to Africa’s highest point at 5985 metres above sea level on Sunday and reached the summit on Tuesday, having spent two nights at two huts on the mountain.

“We are on our way back to Maragu Gate where we started, having spent the night at Mandara Hut after summitting,” said one of the leaders for the hike Austin Mndolo a few minutes ago.

The hikers, the largest group of Malawians at once on the Rooftop of Africa, left Malawi on Thursday and they are expected back in the country on Sunday.
