VisionFund Malawi donates K3 Million to support upcoming Lakeshore Conference

By Burnett Munthali

VisionFund Malawi, a leading microfinance network, has pledged K3 million to the Malawi Microfinance Network (MAMN) in support of its second Lakeshore Conference, scheduled to take place from October 17 to 19. The event aims to foster discussions on financial inclusion and the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malawi.

During a press briefing in Lilongwe, VisionFund Malawi’s Chief Executive Officer, Theodora Ntaba, emphasized the significance of this partnership. “VisionFund Malawi deemed it necessary to collaborate with MAMN because we are one of the key contributors to promoting financial inclusion within the microfinance sector in the country. We believe this conference will emphasize economic growth, which is essential for the country’s development,” Ntaba stated.

The upcoming conference will gather stakeholders from various sectors of microfinance, including agriculture, sustainable finance, and insurance. MAMN’s Chief Executive Officer, Duncan Phulusa, expressed gratitude for the sponsorship, stating that the K3 million will help cover essential costs associated with organizing the event. “This support is crucial for us to bring together experts and stakeholders who are committed to improving the microfinance landscape in Malawi,” Phulusa said.

The theme for the conference, “Inclusive and Sustainable Financing for MSMEs; Catalyzing Agricultural Commercialization in Malawi,” highlights the urgent need to develop financing mechanisms that are accessible to all enterprises, particularly in the agricultural sector, which is vital for Malawi’s economy.

With this initiative, VisionFund Malawi and MAMN aim to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration, fostering innovative solutions that enhance financial access and drive economic growth. As the conference approaches, stakeholders are hopeful that it will yield actionable strategies to bolster the microfinance sector and support the vital role of MSMEs in Malawi’s development.
