Volleyball fever hits Mzuzu: Raiply National Championship Kicks Off with Intensity

By Twink Jones Gadama

The highly anticipated 2024 Raiply National Volleyball Championship has officially commenced at Katoto Secondary School Sports Complex in Mzuzu, with top teams from across Malawi clashing for the coveted title and a staggering K25 million prize.

The men’s category took center stage earlier today, with defending champions Wolves making a resounding statement by thrashing Uliwa 3-0.

The hosts, Moyale Volleyball Team, also made their presence felt by defeating Blue Eagles 3-1, setting the tone for what promises to be a thrilling competition.

Wolves coach Gift Pamire exuded confidence ahead of the tournament, despite the absence of key players.

“We are here to defend our championship, and we will not show mercy to any opponent,” he declared, assuring that their replacements are high-quality and ready to take on the challenge.

Not to be underestimated, Moyale’s coach Aubrey Mpeyama vowed to dethrone the defending champions. “We will finish them this time around,” he stated, emphasizing his team’s determination to claim the title.

Ronald Mwale, Chairperson of the Northern Region Volleyball Committee, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s strong start, noting only minor technical delays.

However, this year’s edition skips the traditional solidarity match, usually held in Mzuzu’s Central Business District.

The Raiply National Championship has become a premier sporting event in Malawi, attracting top talent and passionate fans.

This year’s competition promises to be just as electrifying, with teams battling it out for supremacy.

In the women’s category, fans can expect intense matchups between powerhouse teams like Moyale, Blue Eagles, and Wizards.

The women’s competition is expected to kick off tomorrow.

The 2024 Raiply National Championship is sponsored by Raiply, a leading Malawian company committed to promoting sports development in the country.
