Social media influencer Julius Zimwanda Mithi and JFM Media have alleged that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera benefited a total of K13 billion out of K36.8 billion which is suspected to have been looted from Greenbelt Authority for Mega farms which are only existing on paper not on the ground.

The Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested some officials of the Greenbelt Authority in connection with the loot and have already appeared before the court where they were charged for the offences of Fraud and corruption.

The ACB assured members of the general public that after successful arresting some suspects in the first round of Warrants of Arrest, it will obtain another Warrants of Arrest to arrest some corrupt officials in its second round of arrests.

Writing on his face book page, Zimwanda Mithi alleged that President Chakwera called one of the Fraud Investigations officer to apologize because he as former President of the Republic of Malawi is on the hook and evidence is there linking him to have taken K13 billion from the loot.

“President Chakwera pleaded to the Fraud Investigations Officer not to be exposed and later, he pays back the money,” Mithi writings on the wall.

According to media reports from one of the local television station in Malawi, officials of the Greenbelt Authority were syphoning the money through various bank accounts they created dubiously to serve their own purposes.

The reports say officials of Greenbelt Authority had to go to bank to cash the money which they used to share to MCP politicians saying it will be hard to link these MCP politicians because they are not the ones who were cashing in the money from the bank.

One billion Kwacha was credited into the account of one Greenbelt Authority official and when the ACB quizzed him to explain the source of that One billion, he failed to explain speaking clearly that dubious transactions were taking place.

The reports say one intern was credited in his bank with account K400 million saying the officials from Greenbelt Authority were receiving kickbacks from contractors and as this was not enough, a student Account was credited with K2 billion.

“All this was revealed by a whistleblower who went to the ACB to furnish them with more information and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) proved the same,” reads the reports.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has joined calls from activist JB based in the United States of America (USA) of arresting all suspects involved in the Greenbelt saga, confiscate their property and forfeited to government.

Kamphangala has advised President Professor Mutharika to borrow a leaf from the late President of Tanzania John Pombe Magufuli who formulated a law from his state House to seize all suspected property by politicians in government built through stolen taxpayers’ money.

He has argued that the Malawi Parliament cannot pass a bill of confiscating property to be forfeited to government claiming that all Members in the August House both in government and opposition are corrupt and can shoot down this bill.

“There is no way Malawians can be deducted K6000 from their salaries and paying high taxes for government to recover the stolen money whose culprits are not arrested and prosecuted in courts,” said Kamphangala.

He has expressed hope and confidence that President Professor Mutharika being a listening President will not allow his people to shoulder the loot by suspected MCP officials who have also joined the suffering Malawians by accusing the DPP led government of failed monetary policies.
