Zimbabwe President, Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has been granted freedom of the city of Lilongwe by its mayor Richard Banda upon his arrival in Malawi, for a three-day state visit.
President Mnangagwa accompanied by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima received a dummy key from the mayor of the city of Lilongwe granting him freedom of the city and signed a visitors’ book at the Civic offices in Lilongwe.
In a brief speech, the Zimbabwean President thanked the Mayor for the warm welcome and later presented a gift to the Lilongwe city Mayor.
”As per custom and tradition of the Mwenemutapa Kingdom, we carry gifts to the host therefore I am giving you a gift of a crocodile skin,” said Mnangagwa.
According to a statement by the Malawi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Mnangagwa will carry out several official engagements including holding bilateral discussions with President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on matters of mutual interest.
Mnangagwa is also expected to visit Malawi Parliament, Kamuzu Mausoleum and visit areas that were affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy, among other engagements.
