Kylian Mbappe ended his streak of not scoring in three league games by getting a brace against Real Betis to help Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory. That must have come as a relief to the Frenchman, who had not been efficient in front of goal so far in La Liga but proved that he remains one of the best on the planet.
To be honest, not many fans were worried about Mbappe’s move working out in the long run. If he can avoid injuries, he is most probably going to be a success in a Real Madrid jersey.
At Santiago Bernabeu, that means winning trophies, especially the Champions League. That is the one honour that has eluded Mbappe in his career so far. The closest he came was an appearance in the final for PSG, which they lost against Bayern Munich.
Now, Mbappe finally has the chance to compete for the Champions League year after year. Not just that, the Ballon d’Or should be very much in reach as well. Five of the last six winners have represented Real Madrid at some point in their careers.
Kylian Mbappe told he made ‘mistake of his life’ joining Real Madrid
Yet, Mbappe has been told that winning the Champions League for Real Madrid would not be an extraordinary achievement. As reported by le10sport, Cyril Hanouna said:
“For me, Kylian Mbappé made the mistake of his life. I didn’t elaborate last time, but I’m going to do it now. Winning the Champions League with Real Madrid is normal. Obviously, winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, everyone does it. All the players who are at Real Madrid, at some point, they will win the Champions League.”
Continuing further on the matter, the French presenter added:
“Being the Ballon d’Or at Real Madrid is pretty easy. Benzema got it at Real Madrid. Mbappé should have stayed at PSG, won the Champions League with PSG, won the Ballon d’Or with PSG. The club gave him everything, it would have been his club. He would have been the boss at PSG.”
Well, there is some truth to that argument. Players like Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez have won a lot more in terms of silverware than icons like Steven Gerrard. In terms of legacy, that will not have a major impact.
That being said, winning as one of the faces of Real Madrid is always special. Did it hurt Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy to win the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or while at Santiago Bernabeu? No, it did not, instead it elevated his achievements further
