Maureen Chitsulo, daughter of the late Member of Parliament Joyce Chitsulo, has declared her intention to contest in the forthcoming elections as a shadow MP for Mwanza West.
She made the announcement barely a month after the passing of her mother, who previously represented the same constituency.
Maureen has since launched her campaign, aiming to build on the momentum and developmental projects initiated by her late mother.
Running on the ticket of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Maureen says she is determined to fulfill the aspirations her mother had for the people of Mwanza West.
She highlighted that her decision to join the race is deeply rooted in her desire to continue the work started by her mother, which includes community development, infrastructure enhancement, and social empowerment.
Maureen’s early entry into the political contest has sparked interest among constituents, some of whom see her as a natural successor due to her close association with her mother’s work.
The late Joyce Chitsulo was known for her dedication to uplifting the Mwanza West constituency and had earned respect across the political divide for her commitment to service.
Maureen believes that her mother’s legacy should not be left unfinished and that the best way to honor her memory is to ensure continuity.
As campaigns intensify, it remains to be seen how Maureen will navigate the political terrain and win the trust of voters, many of whom are still mourning the loss of their beloved representative.
However, her passion and resolve appear to be sending a strong message that she is ready to take up the mantle and carry her mother’s vision forward.
