PDP senior youth leader Austin Nsopela pledges support for DPP leader Peter Mutharika as provisional results show him leading in Malawi’s national elections.
Lilongwe, Malawi – The senior youth leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Austin Nsopela, has pledged his support for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika if he wins the ongoing national elections in Malawi.
Nsopela expressed surprise at other political parties contesting the provisional results, which currently indicate that Mutharika is leading. He noted that the trend suggests many Malawians favor Mutharika as their next leader.
“It seems that the majority of Malawians want Peter Mutharika to lead,” Nsopela said. “All political parties should respect the election results to ensure peace and stability in the country.”
Political observers say such cross-party support could foster unity and strengthen democratic processes in Malawi. Nsopela’s statement highlights the growing importance of prioritizing national interests over party differences during the electoral period.
As the nation awaits the final results, political leaders and citizens alike are being urged to respect the democratic process and maintain calm.
