Judge Howard Pemba of the Lilongwe High Court on Wednesday granted an injunction to Wakawaka market vendors to continue trading there until a judicial review is held on 9th April, 2026.
The injunction obtained by representatives of market vendors has been seen as another victory against the DPP led government of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
The DPP led government has been the first in the history of Malawi since the birth of democracy and multiparty politics was introduced in 1994 to be served with a number of court injunctions restraining it from implementing its actions.
First, they were MCP panga wielding thugs who were terrorizing and hacking innocent people in Lilongwe and surrounding places, besides overwhelming evidence on the table, the judge saw it otherwise, but to order the police not to rearrest them.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was granted an injunction stopping the police from searching German shepherd dogs at his Area 10 premises in Lilongwe and this again worked for former Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda stopping the police from searching government fertilizer at his farm in Kasungu.
Army Generals and Police Commissioners were also granted with an order stopping government from deploying them to civilian institutions, speaking for itself that that there’s something secret judges have found it to be punishing the DPP for its careless decisions.
Limpopo FM radio station Nkhanga zaona programme producer Comrade Ntanyiwa, has expressed his great concern over Mchinji Magistrate court Godfrey Nyirenda’s decision to rule that business operators have the right to sale their merchandise wherever they want to, saying this ruling was made after police impounded three trucks carrying maize to Zambia for sale.
Comrade Ntanyiwa said the ruling in Mchinji is one of the surprises Malawians are not understanding and many have labelled Malawi courts as corrupt, rotten and compromise.
He said the MCP of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera soon after entering into government in December, 2020 captured all key government institutions including the Judiciary for the institutions to join in its quest of Boma ndilomweli silikuchoka mpakana 2084.
Comrade Ntanyiwa said the DPP is digging its own grave to fall by letting key institutions captured by the MCP operating in the same way as they were during the reign of President Chakwera.
He has finally appealed to the DPP led government to wake up from bed that these court rulings and injunctions are shaming government as if it has no good learned judges to appeal against the evil rulings which if care is not made, the fall of the DPP will start from there.
