Chilungo Promises Proactive Leadership to Address Malawi’s Challenges

One of the presidential candidates in the forthcoming September 16, 2025, elections, Adil Chilungo, has declared that Malawi needs a patriotic and action-oriented leader to confront the country’s pressing challenges and steer it toward meaningful development.

Chilungo made the remarks on Saturday in Mangochi during an engagement with local leaders, where he shared his vision of national transformation should he be elected to lead the country.

“Malawi is grappling with man-made problems that can be resolved if we commit ourselves to serving the people. It’s like a thirsty man surrounded by water. We have abundant water resources in Lake Malawi and our rivers, yet we continue to suffer from hunger — a situation we can change through irrigation farming,” Chilungo said.

Highlighting his leadership experience, Chilungo said he possesses the skills and determination required to turn Malawi’s fortunes around.

Among his promises is the provision of Agro Best fertilizer to farmers to enhance productivity and help combat hunger.

“I will also establish interest-free loan schemes to empower people to grow their businesses. This initiative will promote financial independence among Malawians, stimulate job creation, and drive national development,” he said.

Chilungo did not spare criticism of the current administration, particularly on matters concerning healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

“It is shocking that people still struggle to access medicines in public hospitals, our roads are riddled with potholes, and farmers receive subsidized fertilizer late. These failures are holding back our country’s progress,” Chilungo lamented.

The presidential hopeful’s remarks come as political campaigns intensify ahead of the much-anticipated polls.
