Songwe Border United is taking decisive action to strengthen their squad with the loan acquisition of four experienced players, a move prompted by their dismal start to the 2025 TNM Super League season.
The team’s recent form has been nothing short of disappointing, having suffered consecutive defeats that have left their supporters in dismay.
In their latest home fixture, Songwe Border United fell 1-0 to Moyale Barracks, a result that dampened their spirits further, but it was their crushing 5-0 loss to Blue Eagles in Lilongwe that truly highlighted their frailties.
Following the humiliating defeat to Blue Eagles, head coach Enock Mhone was candid in his assessment of the team’s performance, admitting that a lack of experience had significantly hindered their chances.
He acknowledged that his side was far too inexperienced to cope with the intensity and pressure of top-tier football, a fact that had become painfully clear in both defeats.
However, despite these setbacks, Mhone remains optimistic, firmly believing that the infusion of experienced players into the squad will help rectify their poor performances and steer the team back on track.
“We are confident that the arrival of seasoned players will bring the balance we need,” Mhone told journalists, expressing hope that the new acquisitions will have an immediate impact on the squad’s dynamics.
Club General Secretary Palisha Swira echoed Mhone’s sentiments, confirming that the process of acquiring new players was already underway, with negotiations at an advanced stage.
Swira went on to reveal that four new players have already joined the squad, with only the final clearances pending before they can officially make their debuts for the team.
The announcement has sparked a sense of anticipation among the club’s supporters, though Swira urged the fans to remain patient, reassuring them that the club is actively working to bring about positive results in the upcoming fixtures.
“While we are fully aware of the challenges ahead, we ask for the fans’ continued support and patience,” Swira said. “The management is committed to improving the squad, and we are confident that the team will turn things around.”
The immediate test for the newly reinforced squad will come in their next fixture, where they face a daunting away trip to Blantyre to take on league leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the iconic Kamuzu Stadium.
With their backs against the wall, Songwe Border United will need to summon all their resolve and new-found strength to navigate what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter against the league’s pacesetters.
It is a pivotal moment for the club, one that could either mark the beginning of a revival or deepen their woes, but for now, all eyes will be on the newly strengthened squad as they prepare for their next challenge.
